About Disaster Movie

The Plot:
According to IMDB: Over the course of one evening, an unsuspecting group of twenty-somethings find themselves bombarded by a series of natural disasters and catastrophic events.

The Good:
The movie is being written and directed by a two-man comedy team who have a combined total of 24 years spoofing movies. Thier Scary Movie collaboration with the Wayans brothers in 2000 was a smash hit that lead to three hit sequels.

The Bad:
Those two men are Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the highest rating any of their solo movies have ever achieved is 6%. That was for Date Movie in 2006. Next is Spy Hard at 5%. This leaves Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans tied for last place with a whopping 2% each. If you add all of those scores together you’ll get 15%, the same rating as Britney Spears’ Crossroads.

The Ugly:
So which movies will be spoofed this time around? As of the time of this writing, these are what have been confirmed:

Clever readers will have noticed that only The Day After Tomorrow and Poseidon are actual disaster movies. Maybe Cloverfield if you’re feeling particularly generous. The writer’s themselves don’t seem to have realized that The Day After Tomorrow is pretty much the perfect spoof of the genre already, intentional or not. Most of the other movies listed are comedies, and The Simpson’s Movie gets a double “huh?” as it’s already a disaster movie spoof, and also spoofs An Inconvenient Truth.

The Worse:
This movie started filming as Meet the Spartans 2: The Story of McLover & The Kingdom of the Crystal Beer Can

The Much Worse:
Hancock, The Love Guru, and The Incredible Hulk won’t even be released until well after Disaster Movie has finished filming. How they plan to spoof something they’ve never seen is a total mystery.

The Bottom of the Barrel:
The movie stars Carmen Electra.
